“What the Hell”

From the Tom Peters Blog.  Such a good Quote I wanted to share.  Link

Found this on a greeting card in a Boston paper store. Frankly, it doesn’t get much better than this:

Allergies — Solving the problem

Everyone knows that I am allergic to just about everything.  Well I went in and got test a while back and now have begun my Allergy Shots again.  One of the main problems I have had with allergy shots is the amount of time it takes for them to become useful.  I hated when my dad gave me the shots when I was a kid and I would just forget to tell him when it was timr for the shots.

Now that I am grown, I need some releif from the allergies that are in the air.  The test showed that I was allergic to every thing that the State of Texas tests for.  Not a big surprise.  Three weeks went by and now I am doing the Allery shot build up.  A new part to all of this is the rapid build up.  This is where they sit me down for a couple of hours and gigve me shots every 30 minutes until the vile has been finished.  They are checking me through out this process, but it takes a 2 week process down to a 3 hour process.  As a project manager, I know the importance of crashing the project, so I really like this option.

The arms itch a little more, but overall the rapid build up has worked very well.

Sunday Morning

Well things are getting back to normal around here.  The baby Girl is sleeping half way through the night now.   I decided to get up early to watch the sun rise on a cool October morning.  It has been a while since I have done this, so I decided that today was the day.  I grabbed my computer and a pudding and headed to the back porch.  Here is what happened:

I was a clear night last night so I was expecting a clear morning, but low hanging clouds muted the morning sounds.  We can hear trains passing about two miles away, which reminds me of my childhood as we heard the same trains in my old neighborhood.  The birds have started to chirp as the sun begins it daily journey across the sky.  The clouds are turning their burnt orange glow that they get during sunrise.

I got the dogs up to come out with me, but ever since the doggy door was installed, black and red come out, do their thing and hop back in doors where it is warm and cozy.  Traitors.

I sit and blog and think of all the things I need to do today.  vaccuum the house, take out the garbage, cook breakfast, entertain the baby girl, get packed for my trip, clean the kitchen,  it never ends.  That is why I enjoy these quite moments in the morning where I can sit, think, and write.

Two passions in my work life came to light this past week.  Helping others succeed and Virtual Team Efficiencies.  Dell now has a way to start blogs and team sites.  I am going to start a Networking Blog to help others at Dell learn the importance of networking and hopefully be able to achieve their goals while at Dell.

It is going to be a long week this week, but I know that Carrie, Beth and I will get through it.

Now where is that cup of coffee.

To catch up.

Well the baby is not here yet.  We are thinking that it will be another week,  Dr. said that by September 29th for sure so I am happy about that.

I learned some new things this past week.  1.  Learned about NEural networks and how they are used, I am thinking that they can be applied to making some decisions about bestcost structure on some deals we are working on at work.  Do not have much to go on yet, but soon I think we will have a small network that we can feed data into and get some results.

The new job is doing great.  I have not been this challenged for a long time.  There is a lot of thinking involved and a lot of project management involved as welll.

New Job is Two weeks old

I just finished my second full week of my new job.  I fell that I am fitting in pretty good.  I am fitting in pretty well, my knowledge of ITIL and Project Management is paying off.  I am in a position and I am aligned with the new services offerings from Dell.

We are watching College football today.  UT vs. TCU.  A&M vs. Fresno State.  I hope the right thing happens.

New Resturant Found . . . The Daily Grill

Carrie and I visited The Daily Grill on Friday. The general manager Steve is a good friend of mine and he treated us to one of the best dining experiences I have had. I had the seared tuna and Carrie had the crab cake, both were cooked just right and were very tasty. Carrie ordered the Prime Rib and I had a top sirloin that was to die for. Both cooked to perfection. Then we ordered dessert as well. Wonderful Key lime pie, homemade with real key limes. Carrie had the Strawberry tarts which was perfect to share after dinner. I enjoyed a glass of Tawney Port as well.

This new place near the Domain is going to become a favorite of mine I can see.

Nelore Churrascaria . . . New resturant that I visited in Houston.

Well I found a place that is better than Fogo de Chow.  Yes a Brazilian restaurant called a Churrascaria.  This type of resturant has servers that bring around skewers of meat where they cut for you at your table side.  I enjoyed the place very much.

The salad bar was big with many different types of food on it.  Cheese, Ceasar salad, and salmon were some of the things that I had from there.  But I was waiting for the meat, their were 13 different cuts of meat that were being run around.  My favoites were the New York strip and the bacon wrapped chicken.  Mmm.

We went with my wife’s family.  Her brother and sister with their spouses and kids were there.  We all had a great time!!

New Movie: Transformers

Well last night while it was raining I decided to invite my brother and sister in laws for a late night without their kids.  After hearing so much about the movie the previous days, we decided to go and see the movie Transformers.  You know the Hasbro owned cartoon that most 30 year olds grew up with.  Well this was a different type of movie that is for sure.  There was nothing cartoon about this movie.  A perfect mix between the story and the action and the action was where it was at.  Like Godzilla on steroids.  Check on the trailer, and then I would see it two or three times.  I have to say the Fourth of July movies are back.

Happy Fourth of July!!!

I wanted to start my blog off with a bang. It is the 4th of July and I decided to write about some of the blogs that I read on a regular basis. Despite some people thinking that to many feeds are a bad thing, I think that the more one reads and listens, the more one understands. One of my mottos is Think, Listen, Understand, Act. This reminds me to make sure that I understand a situation before I act on it. So here is a list of Blogs that I read. To the writers of them, thanks for effort and information.

  • My first blog is actually one of my online mentors. Tom Peters. He has about 50 blogs that his company posts to. Check out www.tompeters.com blog for the blog roll. I began to read much from this site as his principles are in line with mine.
  • The next one is one of my favorites as this person posts his personal financial information on his blog at the last count, 8922 readers have subscribed to his blog. My Money Blog by Jonathan takes his readers on his quest to have a net worth of 1 million dollars. A very lofty goal, good luck Jonathan. http://www.mymoneyblog.com/
  • Web Worker Daily is a blog that distinguishes the differences of being just a worker and a web worker. A Web worker according to their definition is anyone that uses the internet or the subsequent technologies to be more productive or just that is how they work. Many authors write there about a variety of topics. Since I do work on the internet and the web, and virtual team work and project management is an interest to me, I enjoy reading their stuff.
  • For those of you who long to get out of the Rat Race per say, the http://www.escapefromcubiclenation.com/ is a great place to get inspiration. Since I do work in the heart of a cubical nation, I enjoy reading this every day. The funny thing is the establishment where I work, Dell, Inc. has blocked this while working. I guess they do not want the workers to revolt. I think it is humorous as Google reader allows me to read it anyway.

As the next half of the year progresses, I will have much more to say. As I to am declaring my independence. No longer am I a slave to my performance plan or to Dell. I am a free agent on loan to Dell. I enjoy working on cool out of the box projects and that is what I am going to go and do. With the help of my motto, think, listen, understand, act, and working on cool stuff, my experiences will propel me where I want to go; more on business next time.
